Left Untreated

If you have had acid reflux symptoms for longer than 6 months, your symptoms occur three times a week or more or your symptoms do not respond to treatment with anti-reflux medications, you should consult a physician.

Left untreated, acid reflux can lead to the development of pre-cancerous cells. In a small percentage of patients, that can result in a life-threatening cancer of the esophagus (esophageal adenocarcinoma or EAC).
